Description: |
Existing Wastewater Plant The Lake Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant (LSWWTP) is located at 1578 St. Johns Road in the Town of Innisfil, Ontario. The plant was constructed in 1987 and has a current rated capacity of 17,000 m3/d. The LSWWTP currently operates at 65 percent of its rated capacity. it is an extended aeration activated sludge treatment system with screening, grit removal, aeration, secondary clarification, filtration and disinfection prior to discharge to Lake Simcoe. The waste sludge is stabilized through aerobic digestion prior to offsite disposal. Expansion Plan The Town of Innisfil’s 2008 Official Plan identified that additional wastewater treatment capacity is required to meet the servicing requirement for future growth. To accommodate this growth, InnServices completed the Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) for the expansion to the LSWWTP, which recommended a phased capacity increase from 14,300 m3/d (14.3 MLD) to 25,000 m3/d (25 MLD) in the first phase (Stage III) of the expansion, and ultimately to 40,000 m3/d (40 MLD) in the second phase of the expansion (Stage IV). The works proposed for construction under this project are aimed to expand the existing WWTP from the continued use of the extended aeration process to the use of a Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) process with increased capacity as indicated above. The expanded LSWWTP will include a new headworks building with mechanical fine screens and vortex grit removal, primary treatment; a BNR system for biological phosphorus removal by means of the Anaerobic/Anoxic/Oxic (A2O) process; secondary clarification; tertiary membrane filtration; an ultraviolet disinfection system; and sludge management. The Design of the expansion of the LSWWTP is anticipated to be completed before July 2021. The permits approval process has also been initiated. It is anticipated that the expansion project will be shovel ready before September 2021. Additional details on the proposal LSWWTP expansion are provided in Appendix B- RFSQ Particulars. |
